Get Involved

It is always the start that requires the greatest effort.

There are several volunteer opportunities with The Ladder Alliance.  Please take a look at the list below. If you have any questions or want to volunteer, please complete a volunteer application and email it to

Basic Computer Skills Training

Volunteer instructors are critical to the success of the Basic Computer Skills Training program. All evening classes are taught by volunteers who teach once or twice a week. The instruction of classes meeting twice a week is often shared by two volunteers.

Professional Development Training

Volunteers for the professional development training program facilitate a seminar once a week for two hours. Volunteers present topics related to working in an office such as conflict resolution and dressing for success. Volunteers in this capacity are chosen based on their area of expertise in business. They can present multiple topics multiple times if interested.

Email Mentor

Participants email their mentor one to two times a week to provide them with an opportunity to practice sending and receiving email. Volunteers review emails for spelling and punctuation errors and provide feedback to participants. This is a great opportunity to volunteer if you have limited time, and would prefer to volunteer from home or work.

Mock Interviews

During the final two weeks of the Professional Office Skills Training Program, participants conduct an intense job search. Volunteers are needed to participate in job fairs and mock interviews.

Professional Office Skills Training Program Testing for Adult Basic Education (TABE) Testing/Intake

Volunteers facilitate proctoring exams/assessments and assist with the intake process for new participants. This includes assisting participants with completing forms and keeping track of time for the timed portions of the TABE exam. The intake process is twice a year and requires approximately four hours of a volunteer’s time.

Success Store

Volunteers are needed to help participants shop in the Success Store, sort donated clothing or accessories and restock the store. Other tasks include cleaning and maintaining the store and dressing room.

Volunteers may also host a clothing drive to stock the store. Items accepted include blouses/sweaters, pants, skirts, dresses, suits, jackets, coats, shoes, purses and jewelry. Clothing donations should be suitable for job interviews and at work. Learn More.

Administrative Assistants

Each participant in the Basic Computer Skills Training or Professional Office Skills Training program receives lesson material, homework, and additional skill building exercises in a binder at the beginning of the program. Volunteers are needed to assemble binders before the beginning of a new session.

Sponsor and Host Graduation

At graduation, participants their families, Ladder Alliance staff and volunteers celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the graduating participants. Volunteers provide decorations, serve refreshments for the reception and help clean up after the reception.

Student Welcome Bags

Each participant receives a welcome bag on the first day of class with supplies to help them be successful throughout the program. Learn More.
